Las Vegas · Planning Guide

When to Visit

Las Vegas has no bad months — only bad weeks. The difference between a $150 room and a $600 room at the same hotel is usually a single convention or race weekend. Here's how to read the calendar.

The Verdict · When to Go

Best Months at a Glance

Best Overall

April, May, October

Perfect temperatures, full event calendars, and hotel rates that haven't hit their ceiling. October is the single best month for most visitors.

Best Value

January (non-CES), July, August

If you can handle extreme summer heat or cold winter nights, these are the months where the same hotel is 40–60% cheaper. Pack accordingly.

Avoid or Pay Up

CES week, F1/SEMA, New Year's Eve

These three windows triple or quadruple room rates citywide. If you're visiting during them, book 6–12 months out and budget significantly more than usual.

Booking Strategy · Three Rules

01

Book 3–4 months out for peak periods

F1 weekend, CES, NYE, and Life is Beautiful require 6–12 months. For standard travel, 3–4 months gives you the best rate-to-availability ratio before dynamic pricing climbs.

02

Mid-week always beats weekends

Thursday check-in through Sunday departure is consistently 20–35% cheaper than a Friday–Sunday stay at the same property. Las Vegas weekends are for locals spending comp budgets.

03

Check the convention calendar first

LVCC hosts over 20 major conventions annually beyond CES and SEMA. Any event drawing 30,000+ attendees reshapes hotel pricing across the city. Always search 'Las Vegas conventions [your dates]' before booking.
